Application of N-methylpyrrolidone(NMP) in coatings

1. Surface coating

NMP(N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) is a non-corrosive, high-quality solvent, chemical and thermal resistance. Therefore, NMP improves the performance of many surface coating systems. In particular, these effects are conducive to drying coatings and curing at relatively high temperatures. NMP is suitable for the production of highly filled paint. Because it improves the rheological properties, the paint improves the fluidity and covering power. Therefore, the paint is more uniform, non-porous, no cracks, showing greater resistance and higher mechanical strength.
NMP is an excellent solvent for most coating materials, such as acrylate, epoxy resin, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride system, polyamide based on enamel wire, water-based paint and printing ink. In the manufacturing process of thermosetting insulating coatings, an important feature of NMP is that it has good solubility for polycarboxylic acids and their anhydrides, such as trimellitium, phthalic anhydride, amide polymers and high aromatic hydrocarbon content carboxyl groups. Therefore, it contains amides. The polyisocyanate is formed by the condensation reaction of the NMP mixed solution composed of polycarboxylic anhydride and monomer polyisocyanate.
